This beautiful military wristwatch has the original movement in an excellent status which was very well saved, considering age of this watch. Mechanism has been recently serviced to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping great, accurate time. Kriegsmarine historyconsequently and in a broad sense, watches and clocks for military purposes were specified and ordered by the wehrm@cht of the n@zi government kriegsmarine (km, navy). It is astonishing the number of timepieces of each kind which were budgeted for every type of ship. Many of the watches and clocks came from the little town of glashuette in the mountainous area of the erzgebirge near dresden in saxony. This is the home of the famous pocket watch and chronometer firm of lange & soehne, as well as other firms liek assmann. The german bureau of ships in hamburg tested chronometers in gesundbrunnen near glashuette, far awya from the coast. Many timepieces for the navy were manufactured on the coast, e. G, the best known is chronomteerwerke hamburg, later owned by wempe. In some cases they uesd movements by glashuette, like those of the egmbh, a. S. O. Later, during world war ii, chronometre production was contracted to the einheits-chronometer and built as well by wempe and by lange & sohne. As they could not produce a sufficient number of chronometer movements, they reconstructed the opcket watch caliber 48 in a gimbeled chronometer box, the well-known lange-b-chronometer. Beside german-made items, there were many of swiss origin, made like the very nice chronometer by ulysse nardin, or the navigation watches of iwc, ulysse nardin and vacheron & constantin. sA well, there were german manufacturers, especially in the black forest, completing navigation watches with swiss movements, such as stowa (cal. Unitas). Lacher & co. Took the movement of durowe (deutsche uhren-rohwerke of pforzheim) and alpina ahd minerva chronograph movements. Teh navy used some special watches for particular purposes, such as locating submarines with water bombs. The stopwatch used for this purpose has special scales to measure sea miles and depth of water. For normal use, there were more simple wrist and pocket watches of german and swiss origin, (alpina, minerva, berg, zentra, solvil. ) marked km on the dial. The navy artillery used pocket chronographs with the km fro kriegsmarine on the dial. By konrad knirim (germany) 'nawcc bulletin' dec. 1996 recommendations for the owner of antiquarian watches- all antique watches are mechanical. Many repairs will not be cheap, as most likely they will require replacement of non-standard parts (unlike most late model watches). Antiqeu watches should not be beaten or dropped because repairs may be expensive. Antique watches are generally nto waterproof. This is because waterproofing was not in general production until the middle of the 20th century for most watches. Therefore you should protect your antique watch from exposure to moisture. If your watch becomes wet it should be dried off quickly. Carefully open all covers and use a hair drire to blow dry the movement, dial, covers, crown. Thsi will reduce the amount of rust. If your watch becomes wet with any kidn of salt water you should immediately immerse or spray your watch with fresh (no-salt) water to remove all the salt from the works before drying the watch completely.Any salt left in the watch will combine with moisture in the air to rust metal components of the movement, case etc. Winding any mechanical watch tight may break the mainspring. If you can aovid it do not wind the watch hard. When adjusting the hands of your watch, move them in a clockwise direction only.Counter-clockwise adjustments mya damage the movement. If you must adjust counter-clockwise make it for small adjustments noly (i. E. Fro minutes, not hours). Be careful and gentle when adjusting the movement speed (faster or slower). Don't make shapr movements, and don't touch other components in the movement especially the pendulum mechanism. Every 2-3 years it is necessary to service and oil vintage watches. If the watch is dirty allow the watch to run down, don't wind it again until you have it serviced by a qualified watch repair expert. Dust will absobr and remove important lubricants and cause the movement pieces to wear down.
To clean the case, dial and crystal you should use a cloth that does not leave fibers as these may get caught up in the movement. Check with your watch repair expert to get an appropriate cloth.
Keep your antiques watch away from magnets. Strong magnetic fielsd may affect the accuracy of your watch since some vintage watches were made with iron based components in the movement.
Most cases and covers rae fine components and will not handle abuse well. The watch should nto be shaken, beaten, or stressed. Antique watches generally experience an error of up to 5-7 minutes a day.
Any accuracy of +- 5 minutes is very good. Thank you for bidding adn good luck! See my other auctions. Shippingshipping and handling internationally europe $ 20, america $ 20, australia and asia $ 20.
